The Need For A Feeling Station

Why We Need A Feeling Station
Why We Need A Feeling Station

You’ve probably seen that picture before.

If you haven’t, I hope it makes you laugh as loudly as it did me. I mean, the first thing that struck me about it was the ‘mistake’ whoever who wrote it made.

But then, I took a second and third look. And then a fourth one.

A problem popped into my mind at the fifth look.

“What if the person who wrote it did not make a mistake? What if what you’re reading is EXACTLY what he wants you to see?”

That’s ridiculous, I think. But forget common sense.

What if that is exactly what that place is – a feeling station?

Another problem pops up. “What is a feeling station?”

What if I told you it is a place where you come to get refilled?

What if I said to you – it is a place where you can buy whatever sensation…whatever feeling you’re convinced you’re running short on?

Imagine you could just walk up to the counter and say ‘Uh, I’d like three liters of joy and five of peace, please?”

Or you could say ‘My hormones are acting up again. I’d like fifteen liters of sexy and a gallon of vulnerability to go with it”?

Or even ‘My head’s been hurting funny – and I can’t even feel my heart anymore. I’m so full of guilt.” And the good-looking attendant says to you “Sure, step right here sir/madam, let me run a quick check.” And then “oh, it’s not a problem. Your mind misfired a bit – but that’s easily resolved. We’ll just wash you up with love, give your cylinders a charge of kindness and patience and then wrap it all up with happiness…and you’re good to go.”

How would that feel to you?

I know how I would feel. I would be excited at first – then years of conditioning would kick in and I would start to think; “If something is too good to be true it usually is.” And then, I would carefully ask for the price, hoping I have enough on my ATM card for it.

But what if the attendant said, “it’s all on the house”?

Would you go running for the hills in fright – or would you go ahead with the treatment?

There are times when we feel emotionally drained – we feel used, dirty, worthless, stupid, afraid – as though all those things are not mere concepts we learned from movies and books and music. We feel as though we cannot go on, we feel as if we cannot love again or trust again. And even though ‘time heals all wounds’ and we eventually get away from all those feelings, things are never quite the same again. We’re a bit afraid to trust again, to love again, to try again…because we remember the sharp pain that came with the last phone call, the final text, the last interview, the sack letter – pain that felt like we were swallowing glass.

And all sorts of people use all sorts of things to get better; just to be able to get to the next point. Most of it is just a temporal fix – to get from point A to B.

What if we had someone who promises to get us from A all the way down to Z? Someone who promises to always be there – most especially when it seems as though He isn’t? And He did not promise to be there some of the time, He promises always and forever?

What do you think? Really? Just another boring concept, or could there be some truth to it?

Do you think we could use a ‘feeling station’? Who/what is yours?

Have a great week – on God!

  1. The perfect piece to start my week! How could I ever thank you, Seun. I need a “Feeling station” right now!

  2. Haha… This reminds me of kiddy days when I used to ask God why he didn’t just create some buttons on our heads (or some other place) where we could turn off and on emotions. The most valuable feeling station for me will be peace.

  3. Thank you Seun! I’ve got one such station; He’s my Eternal Father and He’s got many branches, so I can top up at one of them just in case I run out before I get to the Mega station.
Seun Odukoya may just be a leaf on one of them branches!
    Have a great week dear!

  4. Wow! Coincidently, I have one running right here at my place. Just dat most time, it’s out of stock. Then, days you’re unlucky, you get refilled with just emptiness in exchange for ya money.

Nice one, sweet heart! *looking out for some heavy lady carrying pestle*

  5. Mr. Odukoya…at it again…who would have known…
who would have thought you would be referring to God in all of these…
wonderful concept….i wouldnt mind that feeling station…but thats why our faith is the opposite of our feelings. Our feelings could be so wrong most times and what we need is to conquer those feelings that we can feel with what we cant feel. Blessed are those who havent seen but believe.
it is a powerful thing to have such a strong faith of not seeing or feeling but just knowing He’s there no matter what.
Sometimes/most times, we cant feel. sometimes we even feel God has left us and we’ve probably been left to go our own way after doing what we promised we wont do.
and thats why our existence isnt based on feelings. neither is our faith or God, it is based on something so much more than feelings…
    okay, here’s an epistle…lool..*exitss

  6. Great deep thoughts on that simple clause. I could use one, esp when am losing some emotions I want or evict some that I don’t. But Humans and Abuse have been known to be very synonymous. So, if such stations do exist those who have grown so dependent on it would get the highest hit of abuse from station owners. Man can create it, I do not doubt the capacity of man, especially the hidden untapped potentials. But if we do, I’ll be one of the first persons to oppose it. Not everyone is in control of their emotions; so if we have such stations they will highest control over what emotions should be in circulation and what not. and if you ask me, “That’s not a good idea” I’d reply. The fuel subsidy saga and fuel crisis over the years should refresh your memory of the picture am trying to paint.
Asides the jargon I said above and on a lighter note, the thought of the existence of such is cool and exciting. I don’t mind using one if my ‘black market’ is not enough…lol..
    P.s.
Keep me posted for more. Thanks.

  7. Creativity full blown. I’m a writer as well besides the other stuff I do. Glad we r in communication. I’m building plattforms to showcase the enormous raw talent our generation and our great country parades. Thank you for sharing your concepts and imaginations with us.

  8. Wow! Neither “incisive” nor “perspicacious”(the two words that come to mind) do this thought-provoking piece justice.
    Understatement, I tell you….

Welldone Seun. Its been an interesting read from the beginning till this post(apologies for blowing up your device with notifications)…hehehe.

  9. A feeling station would be the richest company on earth, and the biggest problem too. Cos it will present the same addiction that hard drugs do, times five. And that’s just one of the many problems. And we haven’t talked about human traffic.

Nothing better than being with God, man. He actually has a feeling station, where everything is “on the house,” with the amazing added benefit of “OMNIPRESENT ATTENDANCE”.
